The winery also remains at the forefront of wine tourism and innovation with the launch of “The Legacy of Bodegas Faustino”, a Bodegas Faustino – Foster+Partners 2024 project that is destined to become the leading and most ground-breaking architectural complex in the wine world, and which is already open to the public.

Bodegas Faustino, a Familia Martínez Zabala brand, was again included in the list of ‘The World's Most Admired Wine Brands 2023’ which is released each year by established British magazine Drinks International.

For the fourth year, the Rioja Alavesa-based winery has been included among the 50 most admired wine brands in the world according to the magazine, which creates this exclusive list based on a survey held among more than 200 experts in the sector from 48 countries. These experts include Masters of Wine, sommeliers, consumers, wholesalers, bar and restaurant owners, writers and journalists from the wine world, teachers and other specialists.

Lourdes Martínez Zabala, CEO of Familia Martínez Zabala, explained that: “Being included among the most admired brands in the wine world again is a real honour. We’re proud to receive recognition for our work and will carry on working so that we continue to make the highest quality products.” She added: “We’re currently right in the middle of creating “The Legacy of Bodegas Faustino” by Bodegas Faustino – Foster+Partners 2024, an innovative project that is already open to the public and will give wine tourists the opportunity to enjoy a unique concept, the most comprehensive and exclusive set of experiences related to wine.”

Drinks International magazine has spent 23 years celebrating the remarkable work and dedication of first-class wine-making companies who offer exceptional value for money.  Bodegas Faustino is one such company, and has again been included among the most iconic, innovative and respected wine producers in the world.

A world-famous brand

Bodegas Faustino is a strong brand and international benchmark whose wines are renowned among consumers. Quality and the consistency of products that combine tradition, innovation and sustainability, were aspects that were appreciated by the jury when it included the winery in the reference guide.

Located in Oyón, in the Spanish province of Álava, the Bodega Faustino winery possesses the greatest collection of legendary DOCa Rioja vintages and 750 hectares of vineyards in the Rioja Alavesa subregion spread out between Laguardia and Oyón. It belongs to Familia Martínez Zabala, a leading producer of Gran Reserva DOCa Rioja and one of the most important wine groups in Spain and abroad, with a presence in more than 140 countries.

In addition to this latest achievement, Bodegas Faustino was chosen as one of the five best European wineries of 2022 at the Wine Star Awards held by Wine Enthusiast. Faustino I Gran Reserva 2001 was also the best wine of 2013 according to Decanter magazine, while Gran Faustino I Gran Reserva 2004 was selected as one of the best wines of 2022 by Wine Enthusiast.

Faustino has been the leading producer and exporter of Gran Reserva de Rioja across the world for over 30 years and currently has a 35% market share in this most prestigious Rioja category. Today, Bodegas Faustino has a cellar of over 60,000 barrels and nine million bottles; it offers one of the most extensive vertical tastings in Spain, selling vintages from 1955 onwards.

The Legacy of Bodegas Faustino: innovation, sustainability and wine tourism

Bodegas Faustino continues working to remain at the forefront of wine tourism and innovation. The winery already has the most advanced facilities for producing and ageing the finest Rioja wines and has now collaborated with acclaimed architecture studio Foster+Partners to build “The Legacy of Bodegas Faustino”, a Faustino – Foster+Partners 2024 project. It is destined to become the most innovative and sustainable architectural complex related to wine.

The Legacy of Bodegas Faustino project was devised by Foster+Partners and will see Bodegas Faustino being completely redesigned to become the archetypal winery of the future, focusing on sustainability, innovation and wine tourism.  The first phase of the project has already been completed and is open to the public

The project will involve building new visitor areas that will mean wine enthusiasts can enjoy the most comprehensive and exclusive set of experiences related to wine, the vineyard, nature, architecture, culture and sustainability in a unique concept that connects every space with the vineyards, as they become part of the architectural complex.
